A pin header connector is a male (plug) connector with square pins that are molded into a plastic insulator. Most often manufactured with single or dual rows, pin headers are also available with 3 rows or more. Pin header connectors are typically mated with a socket header (receptacle) providing a reliable and economical board-to-board connection.

Pin header connectors are available in vertical or right-angle orientations. Common pitch options are 1.00mm, 1.27mm, 2.00mm, and 2.54mm. These connectors can be supplied with PC tail (through hole) or SMT (surface mount) terminations. Alignment posts help to facilitate the placement of SMT parts onto the PCB before soldering. Single, dual, or triple insulator options are available.
